The UX Designer will be responsible for designing small to large scale products and services within the priorities set by the SparkNotes & B&N management teams. Role will lead creation of user flows, wireframes, and prototypes, as well as mark-up UI designs. Role will support product managers and business analysts in the requirements gathering and user story creation process. Role will focus on developing and delivering user-focused digital products and services that fulfill SparkNotes business goals.

Essential Functions

? Initiates, facilitates, and provides creative concepts for digital products that are aligned with industry best practices, accessibility standards, and trends.
? Designs and maintains consistent, intuitive experiences across all desktop and mobile products.
? Designs responsive and adaptive web user-interfaces as well as Android and iOS applications.
? Develops usability standards and design guidelines, creates wireframes, user flows, prototypes, spec sheets, and style guide documentation.
? Creates HTML and motion-graphic prototypes to better demonstrate designs.
? Performs user testing, A/B testing, and benchmarks products to ensure development is addressing real user needs and delivering continuous improvements.
? Identifies issues that affect product development/delivery plans and designs solutions to ensure projects are delivered on time and to specifications.
? Coordinates with both SparkNotes and wider B&N digital teams to successfully roll-out products and services while optimizing quality, budget, and schedule requirements.


? BA/BS degree in Design and at least 4 years in interactive design, multimedia design, and/or web design.
? Strong background in educational technology, online teaching & learning, and digital instructional design preferred.
? Exceptional portfolio that showcases solid conceptual, color, layout graphic design skills.
? Extensive understanding of web technologies and tools including Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, Keynote, Sketch, and InVision as well as accessibility methodology & standards, and UI/UX theories as they relate to design solutions.
? Knowledge of best practices, requirements, limitations, and possibilities for designing native iOS and Android apps.
? Experience designing and delivering multiple complex digital/software projects simultaneously that are on schedule, within budget, and of high quality.
? Excellent leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
